Nearly 25,000 households in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events passed over the state, generating powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across the state had been impacted by large hailstones.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing power throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, approximately one thousand households in the southern state also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred calls for help across the area, mainly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

At one point on yesterday, more than 28k electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this coming days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued severe weather risk anticipated across different parts of both states.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This caution comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
